The gallbladder sits in the right side of the upper abdomen, under the liver, and holds a fluid called bile which is produced in the liver. Bile helps you absorb fats and certain vitamins. When you eat, the body receives a signal to release bile, via bile ducts, into the small intestine. You can liver without a gallbladder, the bile being released directly by the liver into the small intestine.
